When choosing your indoor/outdoor carpet, you have many choices just like buying for the inside of your home. The area where you are going to lay this carpet is the first thing when considering your carpet and then the grade. Do not try to save money when buying outdoor carpet because of the moisture and UV sunrays need to be considered.
How to consider buying indoor and outdoor carpet:
Buying your first indoor/outdoor carpet is a chore anymore because of the many grade qualities and colors that there are to choose from. With new technology, you have a lot more offered now that before. When buying outdoor carpet the grassy green stuff was the only choice, now it comes in different grade and many colors.
Finding commonality in indoor and outdoor carpet:
Be familiar with the different outdoor carpets before deciding on the one you want to purchase. Do a little research on the different grades and textures by looking them up on the Internet or checking out the nearest home improvement places like Home Depot and Lowes? The stores all offer different styles and colors along with the grade and prices.
Outdoor carpet is usually made of polypropylene to make it more stain resistant and give it better moisture control, making the carpets UV protected from the outdoor sunrays as well. The texture isn’t something you would want inside your home because it is rough and hard to walk on.
Learning the grades of indoor and outdoor carpet:
The different grades offered make it easier to choose the best one for you area. The cheapest grade is the grassy green stuff recommend for the uncovered areas, like around the pool area.
The higher the grade the more expensive it is going to be when buying your carpet for the outdoors. The higher-grade carpet has more colors available and more resistant to the moisture, humidity, and dampness, which all need to be considered before making your purchase. The backing on the higher-grade carpets are made of marine backing to be more effective for stain resistance, waterproof and UV rays offer more protection.
Considering plush textures:
There is a new look now when purchasing your outdoor carpet. The plush textures are recommended for covered areas such as the screened in porch. Texture is softer, giving it a nicer feel when walking on it. This plush outdoor carpet has two grades as well; the mid grade is for the less traffic areas and the higher grade is recommended for the areas that will have heavy traffic use.
When making your decision on what grade, texture and color carpet for the area in which you are laying it remember the higher the grade the longer it will last. The higher grade carpets with give more comfort when walking on it as well. Take in consideration that the higher grade the more expense you’ll have.
Moisture is the main concern when buying outdoor carpet and making the decision on the grade you want. Moisture will draw mold and mildew and being outside you need to have good moisture control.
Cleaning your outdoor carpet is easy to do by using mild detergent and sponge to wipe stains off and use a hose to rinse. You can use the vacuum once a week to help keep the dirt soil under control. Carpet vendors and manufacturers recommend that you steam clean the carpets every few months to keep stains down.
